Meet the Maker

Hello, I'm Julie — the hands (usually covered in clay) behind Clay & Birch Pottery!

Based in the beautiful countryside of Ontario, Canada, my journey into pottery began a few years ago when I decided to try a ceramics class. At the time, I had my own bookkeeping business, spending my days surrounded by numbers, spreadsheets and deadlines. Little did I know that one pottery class would completely change my direction.

From the moment I got my hands into clay, I was hooked. What started as a creative escape quickly became a passion, and that passion grew into Clay & Birch Pottery.

Today, you'll find me in my home studio, happily creating, experimenting and occasionally wondering how I've managed to get clay absolutely everywhere!

My philosophy is simple: handmade doesn't have to mean perfect.

I love organic shapes, beautiful textures, interesting glazes and all the little imperfections that make handmade pottery so special. No two pieces are ever exactly alike, and that's precisely how I like it.

My creations are a mix of function, colour and fun. Some are practical pieces designed to make everyday moments a little more beautiful. Others are whimsical, a little quirky and, every now and then, just a tiny bit naughty!

I believe pottery should be more than something you admire on a shelf. It should be something you reach for every day, something that makes you smile and something that feels uniquely yours.

Every piece is thoughtfully handmade by me, from the first slab of clay to the final glaze firing. I'm constantly learning, trying new ideas and discovering where this wonderful, messy craft will take me next.

Thank you for being here, supporting handmade and allowing me to share a little piece of my creative world with you.
